Wolfpack Sink Navy Vets in Gretzky Opener
The
Paris Optimist Atom Rep Wolfpack opened the 46th Annual Wayne
Gretzky International Ice Hockey Tournament with a 3-2 victory over the
Woodstock Jr. Navy Vets.
With Paris shorthanded at the midpoint mark of the first period, Will M. worked time off the penalty keeping the puck below the Woodstock goal line. Moore then snuck out front and beat the Navy Vet goalie to put Paris up 1-0. Woodstock rebounded to tie the game early in the second period. Will picked up his second of the night when he jammed in a loose puck in the goal crease just as a Woodstock penalty expired. Josh S. and Tyler G. picked up assists. Woodstock tied the game just over a minute later to send the game tied at 2-2 into the third period. Ryan O. recorded the game winner with a wrist shot to the top corner with just under two minutes to play in the final frame. Kyle C. picked up MVP honours for Paris.
