Lisa Dalpe Tournament
The Paris Wolfpack Novice LL1 team competed in the Lisa Daple Memorial tournament this weekend.  The team started strong on Friday night but dropped a hard fought 1-0 score to Ingersoll.  Carson K played a strong game in goal holding a strong Ingersoll team to one goal.  The team defence was fantastic with all players working hard to protect the house.  On offense, the team had a couple of great chances but could not beat the Ingersoll goalie on this night.  Andrew G was named the 'Player of the Game' by the opposing team.  Gabriel K was named the Wolfpack 'Worker of the Game' and left the arena with Hardhat.

On Saturday morning, the Wolfpack was back at the rink for a 730am game against New Hamburg.  Logan H pulled off his Brett Hull impersonation in the first period as he one timed a pass from Adam Oates (aka- Scott H) to give the Wolfpack a 1-0 lead.  New Hamburg would not go away and tied the game in the final minute of the first period.  The 2nd period belonged to the Wolfpack scored four times to take a 5-1 lead.  Carson V scored to give Paris a 2-1 lead before Andrew G added a 'natural hatty' (so he explained).  Carson V completed the scoring in the 3rd period with assists going to Daniel C and Preston J.  New Hamburg was able to score once more in the final minute but it was not enough as the Wolfpack skated away with a 6-2 win.  Scott H, Canaan S, and Preaston J each picked up a couple of helpers in the game with Brooklyn W, Charlie G, Gabriel K and Sydney W (Syd-the kid) each picked up single assists.  A great overall team effort with all the goals having multiple assists showing that the team was moving the puck.  Logan H was named 'Player of the Game'  by the New Hamburg coaches for his skating and opening goal.  Brooklyn W was named Wolfpack 'Worker of the Game'.

After a 4 hour break, the Wolfpack was back facing a must win scenario against a West London Major team.  Playing their 3rd game in 20 hours may have been too tough of a task as LL1 dropped a 6-2 decision.  With the legs a little heavy and passing not as sharp as the first two games, the Wolfpack battled hard in the first period but two break away goals found them trailing 2-0.  Determined to not go down without a fight, Andrew G knocked in a rebound of Daniel C shot to cut the lead to 2-1 with 6.7 seconds.  Carson V picked up a loose puck off the face-off and had a semi-break away but the buzzer went before he was able to get his shot off.  Trailing 2-1 going into the 2nd, the Wolfpack were poised to hang with the strong team from West London (who opened their tournament with a 14-1 win).  West London showed their strength in the second period scoring 3 times to take a 5-1 lead into the 3rd period.  Paris did not roll over and battled hard in the third period.  Each team scored once to complete the scoring.  Andrew G scored his second of the game as he went hard to the net and was 'johnny on the spot' when Charlie G fired a hard shot in from the point.  Carson V was working hard all game and had 3 great chances as a result of his hard work.  The London bench appreciated his play and named him the 'Player of the Game'.  Coach Nick and Coach Shawn had a hard time picking the Wolfpack 'Worker of the Game' but after some serious discussion, Logan H was awarded the hardhat based on his performance against London and the two earlier games.

While the team came up a little short in their bid to make the semi-finals, the coaching staff was quick to praise the effort of the players over the 2 days.  They played 3 solid games and with a little luck on Friday night, could have finished 2-1 which would have given them an early Sunday morning semi-final match-up with Mississauga.  Many parents may have let off a sigh of relief after the drawing the 730am tilt on Saturday morning.

The Novice LL1 Wolfpack have a few days off as the kids prepare to head back to school.  After a quick skate on Thursday, LL1 will play LL2 in a pair of Intertown play-off games on Saturday and Sunday.  LL1 will be looking to try and duplicate their effort and intensity next weekend as they continue their quest for a top 4 spot in the Intertown 'A' play-off pool.
