Catching Up
Sorry for taking so long in updating website. Just when I think I can sit down and start typing, something grabs my attention. So, here goes...
Since my last news item, we have played some very good games, some good games, and a couple of, well, "let's learn from this" games.
Let's start with some positives:
At the tournament, we were very competitive in all 4 games. We saw some real hustle, and the players getting in their groove for positioning. We made some changes to positions and lines, and for the most part, the players responded in a good way. Some were thrown off balance by being put in a position they hadn't played before, but were attentive to coaching.
The games after that were a mixed bunch. Let's focus in on Ingersoll game. When we played together as a team, good things happened, like scoring chances, or even just rushes down the ice. Of course, it certainly helps that our goalie made 51 saves (wow!). Make no mistake about it, Ingersoll is a very good team, and hadn't given up a point in their regular season, yet, so, I am quite pleased with the resolve of the players.
Some challenges:
Although positioning is coming along, there are still times that we need to correct some wandering players. Quite often, that turns into potential chances for the other team.
There are some instances where players are taking too long of a shift. We need to keep fresh legs on the ice, as we have run into situations where players are watching the play happen, and not being involved, because they are gassed.
The coaching staff continue to talk to the players about giving us, and their team, perfect effort. And, we show them how, when they work as a team, they are hard to beat.
I will update the stats once I get a couple of numbers, just so they are complete.
