Team Jack wins on-ice skills competition
Jack quickly assumed the role of captain for his team for the missing Liam during today’s on-ice skills competition, against Austin and his team.

Other changes to the teams’ lineups were necessary since both Gavin and Eli were also missing from today’s activities.  After some negotiation, the teams were made up as:

Team Austin
:  Austin, Evan Shipp, Evan Scott and Spencer

Team Jack: Jack, Owen and Braden

Captain Jack assigned his 'mates to the various challenges to strategically match up against Captain Austin’s choices of players for each challenge.

Our on-ice skills competition took off to a great start with the fastest skater challenge between Evan Scott and Braden, with Evan winning to a time of 17.5 seconds capturing the first point of the challenge to Team Austin.

Next, in the Accuracy target shooting Spencer lined up pucks against Braden.  Braden went first and after 6 shots, he successfully took down 2 targets, Spencer followed suit and managed to take down 1 target, leaving Braden with a point for Team Jack.

Our third challenge was the Breakaway challenge with Owen vs. Jack after 3 breakaways they were tied with a goal each.  To find a winner both Owen and Jack played sudden death breakaways with Jack breaking the tie with a second goal to claim a point for his team.

Stick handling was the fourth challenge of the day and Austin and Owen went head to head in this challenge with Owen winning the first race and Austin winning the second race, leaving the result of this challenge as a tie.

Fifth challenge was our defense challenge in which forward players from each team versed against our assigned defense players Evan Shipp vs. Jack, some great plays by both of our defensive players resulted in a second tie of our challenge.

Our team Relay Race was our sixth challenge of the day and proved to be the most exciting challenge of the day.  Since Jack’s team had one player less than Austin’s team, Jack appointed Braden to skate twice, once to start the race and a second time to finish the race.  It was a close finish but Team Jack managed to win the race by a close margin.

To conclude, our on-ice skills competition we held our mini-stick shooting drill against our goalie Ethan with Austin scoring the only goal of the challenge and earning the final point of the challenges for his team.

In the end, Captain Jack’s team was victorious 5-4, thanks to the coaches and players for making today’s practice a fun event.

See you next Sunday, March 13/16 at 3:30pm for a home exhibition game vs. Brantford Bialis House league team.
