Wolfpack shine well in the third period but come up short against the Leafs 1
Our Midget LL4 team had our first away league game in Langton this past Wednesday on Halloween night versus the Langton Leafs 1 team.

Paris’ convoy to Langton had a full team, minus Evan and Jaden, this meant we had 11 skaters and our goalie to suit up on this ghoulish night!  With an 8pm game start the drive up was eerily dark and our GPS units were telling us to turn left at the jack o lantern, stay right of all spider’s webs and don’t venture past the arena or it’ll be reminiscent of the Children of the Corn.

Before the start of the game our team manager Greg reminded our players that a win against Langton meant a free dinner for all players with Greg fitting the bill at Harvey’s.  With this hype our players were up for the challenge and ready to hit the ice to win the game, in their heads they were already placing their combo orders; however, this over confidence we would later learn added some struggles for our team, especially at the start of the game.

What our team was not expecting was for the Leafs to come out strong in the first two periods and claim a goal in each period to have a 2-0 lead entering the third period.  Langton pushed onward in the third period with a quick goal in the period, leaving our team down by 3 goals; fortunately, we still had 14 minutes to claw back in the game, which we began to do.

Our Wolfpack team finally turned our game on as Cameron passed the puck to Riley who forwarded it to Josh who found our first goal of the game.  Congrats to Cameron on his first assist of the season.  Less than 2 minutes later Riley McH had a goal of his own with thanks to Jonah, who claimed his first assist of the season, to allow Paris to inch up on Langton.

With a final attempt to tie up the game, our bench called for our goalie to come to the bench so we can put out a sixth skater; unfortunately, this strategy almost back fired on us as Langton scored on an empty net which was called back because of an off side call, to finish the game with a win.

It is important to note, earlier in the game, we were tricked out of a goal, as the Leafs goalie clearly caught the puck in his trapper that was behind his goal line that was not seen by the ref.  Had this been called a goal our team would have had a much closer chance at tying if not winning this game.

Wolfpack played well; unfortunately, they just ran out of time in their final period.  With the results sinking in, post game, many of our players were texting sad face emojis.  Then with the realization that they were not getting a free dinner their emojis quickly turned to hungry stomach emojis and hashtags to the tune of #Iforgotmywallet or #washingdishesforHarveysdinner.

Good news, Greg’s wager will carry over into our next match up against the Langton Leafs 2 when we host them in Paris on the 16th of December, hopefully, our home ice advantage will help seal a win and a dinner.  I hope this wager applies to our coaching staff?!!

Go Wolfpack Go!
