From the desk of 'Coach Frankie'....
WELCOME all to another Great Wolfpack Season!!

This is Stan Atkinson, AKA 'Frankie' and I will be the sports writer for our games this season, bringing you our kids play-by-play action and stats!  I take great pride in being handed down the duties from GM Stewy; as after shadowing him for the past 3 years, he now feels I am ready!!  I have big shoes to fill (and more white hair to grow) to achieve the great job he has done for years!

The pack started the year on the road for the first 3 games...

Game 1 - Wolfpack vs. Delhi Rockets

First up was Delhi Rockets with a quick first game.  The Coaching Staff; Mike S, Doug S, Shawn D, Stan A, Craig G, and drill leader Nephew Nick squeezed in some extra practice and conditioning to get the team best prepared as possible.

The Pack opened the scoring with Turbo (Cameron Stewart) potting one for the good guys on a relentless fore check that saw him pick up a goalie mistake and pot his first of the year! This was short lived as Delhi returned the favour 2min later to tie it up 1-1.  Once again the Pack struck back quick with another one of their own from some nifty puck handling by Andrew R. who finished it off finding the back of the net with a good 'wrister', his mates A.J. and Jack A. picking up assists.

Now up 2-1, with some back and forth play and solid net minding by our own, Callum-the-Cat-Dailey, the Pack couldn't hold off Delhi from returning the favour four minutes later to tie it up 2-2.  Delhi would score 2 mins into the 3rd on a rebound to take the lead.  The Pack had many chances and hard work in the 3rd by forwards (Digger)Dawson A, Jacob H, David M, Jacob B and center Ryan Q who made a great effort to tie it up with 2:30 left to play.

Head Coach Mike (Babcock Sinclair) pulled the goalie for an extra attacker in the offensive zone.  Face off luck would not be on the Pack' side as a battle off the draw and a lucky bounce saw the puck slide down the ice into the open cage, closing out a 4-2 victory to Delhi.

The Pack had a great defensive effort from Canaan S, Taylor D, (Crusher) Logan S, Camryn G and Isaac G, all made some GREAT defensive plays!

All-in-all a great TEAM effort for the first 2018/2019 tilt with Andrew R receiving the McDonald's GOLDEN Jersey as first star!

Game 2 - Wolfpack vs. Simcoe Warriors 2

The team travelled to Simcoe to face the Warriors.  Coach Sinc tinkered with a few positions trying to find the right 'gel' after a scoreless end to end first period.  It didn't take long to pay off in the 2nd as center Canaan took off up through the middle on a great pass from Jacob B and roofed his first of the year with Jack A drawing the assist!

With Simcoe tieing it up in the 2nd period, the team opened up the 3rd tied 1-1 until A.J. pounded a rebound in off a shot from Ryan Q to re-take the lead.  With David M also assisting, the teams battled back and forth with 'The Cat' staying sharp, keeping us tied and our D-Men standing tall until 3 mins left in the 3rd.

Jacob H bounced a puck off the boards back to Crusher who wristed one in.  Simcoe D-men blocked, but came right over to Canaan' sharp curved stick who found the man-of-the-hour Jacob B, who riffled a one timer past Simcoe's net minder for his FIRST career goal and propelled the Wolfpack to their first VICTORY!

This victory was a GREAT Team effort with hard work, great passing and determination!

Game 3 - Wolfpack vs. Simcoe Warriors 1

With no time to rest, the Wolfpack travelled back to Simcoe, 4 days later, to face the other Warriors team.  With the team starting to find their 'groove', they came out strong scoring first with Digger grabbing a rebound off a shot by Cam, stepping around the tender, potting his first of the year only 1:50mins into the game.  Jacob H picked up the other assist.

The Pack struck again 3mins later on a quick wrister from Canaan, assisted by Jacob B and Jack A to put the team up by 2!!  10 seconds later, off the draw, Simcoe snuck one by to cut the lead 2-1.

The Pack quickly had the answer for that! 17 seconds later in the 'Sea-Saw' battle of a first period; Canaan snagged his second of the night on a 'heads-up' pass from Ryan Q!  Now at 3-1, the Pack got a little comfortable and got back on their heals as the Warriors scored the next 3 unanswered goals to take the lead, 4-3.

After a 'pep' talk from GM Stewy, the ream responded in the 3rd tieing if up on a blast from the point by Crusher Sinclair assisted by Canaan and Digger Dawson!  Once again, the Warriors, found a way to take the lead on a puck that they Cat had a slow whistle on, and like that, the Pack was behind 5-4.

With 4 togo, the pack applying tremendous pressure late in the 3rd; the K-man(Canaan S) riffled one, TOP shelf off a nifty passing play which saw Dawson and Cam draw the assists.  The hard fought sea-saw battle would end at 5-5.

Once again, the defense of the Pack was SOLID helping The Cat.  Camryn, Taylor and Isaac playing good positional hockey, clearing the puck away from the danger zone and firing the biscuit hard up the board to wingers to clear the zone; with Ryan Q and Logan jumping in to the rush to add offence when needed. The player of the game and Golden Jersey went to the K-Man(Canaan) potting his first Hat-Trick of the year and hard back checking efforts!!

Game 4 - Six Nations vs. Wolfpack

After 3 games on the road, the Wolfpack was set to put their 1-1-1 record on the line against the Six Nations Blackhawks on home ice.  ...and might I say, it's always nice to play at home, as the young Wolfpacker's put on a show for the hometown fans winning 15-4.  Everything went well for the Pack but was still hard fought, with good positional play and hard work, the Pack were too much for the out-of-towners.

With 'The Cat' closing the door when needed, strong defensive play by Taylor, Isaac and Camryn to keep Six Nations from getting anything going most of the time; with the 3 forward lines, constantly applying heavy pressure.  Shooting the puck on net and tracking down rebounds, combined for many points lead by K-Man with a double Hat-Trick, lighting the lamp 6 times!

Digger Dawson had 3 for his first Hat-Trick of the season and 2 helpers.  Andrew R racked up 2 goals, 1 assist.  Cam 2 goals 2 assists.  Ryan Q and Crusher both 1 on a great tip in.  Also picking up assists were David M, Jacob B, Jack A, Camry G, Taylor D and Isaac G!  On this day, the pack was hungry and the points came in buckets!!

A very solid effort all around on home ice.  The Golden Jersey was awarded to Digger Dawson with a solid game in front of his relatives in the stands.

Great job by ALL in the first 4 games!  Next game the team heads back on the highway taking on the Waterford Wildcats, Saturday October 27.

...That's all for now...
