Novice Wolfpack Prepare for Rob Johnston Tourney
The Paris Sports (where to go to get all your sporting needs) Novice Rep Wolfpack are seven games into their 2018-19 season.  Coach TJ has been moving players around to different positions while looking for the right combination through the first part of the season.

Tallen W (with his Sakic-like wrister) and Connor M (with his Marner-like speed) have helped to pace the offense with some timely goals off the wing.  Reid M and Andrew G have been strong up the middle with their pucks support and battles at both ends of the rink.  Jamieson A has been the Wolfpacks version of Brett Burns by moving off the wing and helping out on defence when needed.  Aidan D has played a strong positional game and figuring out when to use his blazing speed.

On the back end, Coach Sparks is working on building a solid group of d-men out of three first year defencemen.  Owen W is the lone vet on the blueline and has the versatility to play any style needed.  Owen has been paired to rookie d-man Noah B, whose size and strength makes him a tough matchup for many teams.  The smooth handed Ty K is partnered with the no backing down attitude of Hayden "call him Sparky" S.

Sam M has stepped up in goal as the last line of defence and made some big saves in the early part of the season.  Making the jump from Tyke is a big step for goalies and Sam looks to be up for the challenge.

Paris opened the Southern Counties with a 9-4 win over Ingersoll before dropping a pair of road games in Simcoe and Tavistock.  Simcoe was a hard fought game in which the Wolfpack battled back from a 4-1 deficit to cut the lead to one in the third period.  The Wolfpack returned home to pick up a big 5-1 win over Tillsonburg (my back still aches when I hear that word).  Paris headed back down the 403 for a Sunday afternoon rematch but came up on the wrong side of a 4-1 score.

The Wolfpack returned home last week for a match up with the Thunder from Caledonia.  Paris came out of the gates strong and jumped out to a 4-0 lead midway through the 2nd period.  However, the Thunder rolled back in the 2nd half of the game to steal a point with a 5-5 tie.

What we have learned so far this season is that the Novice Wolfpack has been strong on their home ice with four wins, one lose and a tie.  However, they are still feeling their way out on the road as they are still looking for their first points in league play.  In addition, when the team is focused and playing a fast paced, strong on the puck style of play being taught by coach TJ, they have been a tough opponent for any team they have played.

The Wolfpack have a busy week leading into the Rob Johnston tournament with a pair of road games in Ayr and Simcoe before hosting Burford, Mooretown and Cayuga on the weekend.
