Novice Wolfpack - Oro Early Start
The Paris Sports (where to go to get all your sporting needs) Novice Rep Wolfpack headed up the 400 to start their season at the Oro Early Start Tournament September 28-30th.  With only one returnee from 2017-18, Coach TJ took a bunch of fresh faces on a road trip to Barrie and threw the boys into the fire against some strong Northern talent.

In their opener, the Wolfpack squared off against the Burlington Bulldogs.  Although out numbered and out sized, the Wolfpack used their speed to pressure the Bulldogs to the point where they were spinning in circles.  Andrew (I think I'm Gordie Howe) G was all over the game sheet picking up goals, assists and penalties.  Tallen W picked up a goal and was a force along the boards and in front of the net.  The D was a steading force and Sam M was solid in goal over the final period to preserve the win.  Andrew G was named POTG in the opener.

In game two Saturday morning, the boys from Brant ran into a Maskoka Bears team that came out like an angry Bear that was awaken from it slumber.  The Bears jumped on the Wolfpack early and they were never able to gain any traction.  We will call it a learning experience that the kids were able to shake off with a swim and an afternoon nap.  Ty K was named POTG for his strong play.

Game three saw the Wolfpack face the undefeated Dundalk team.  They knew they were in tough and needed to take 6 of a possible 10 points to move on to the A semi-finals.  Paris came out with the speed and aggression they displayed in the opener and jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first period, two points -check.  In the second, the teams played back and forth.  Reid M was doing his Mitch Marner impersonation by darting all over the ice like a water bug.  The young rookie was everywhere!  The Wolfpack held a 4-3 lead late in the 2nd before a bad bounce allowed Dundalk to tie the game with goal in the final 30 seconds.  In the third, Dundalk finally pulled a head 7-6 with less than two minutes to play.  The boys from Brant dug deep and had a couple of chances to tie the game before the final buzzer but were denied.  Reid was named the POTG and picked up his first goal of the young season.

The loss left the Wolfpack playing for the B Final Sunday morning against the host Oro team.  Looking to leave the cold North on a high note, Paris came out ready to play.  While the 8am start was early for the parents, the kids didn't seem to mind.  The boys played like a pack of Wolves, circling the Oro Thunder goal from the start.  Reports out of the north had the Oro goalie flinching at unknown objects well after the Paris boys left town.  Sam M was solid in goal, staying focused and held his shutout bid until the final two minutes before having a puck sneak by.   Owen (I  play like Orr) W was a stand out on D for the Wolfpack scoring a goal and adding a couple of chances off the rush.  Hayden S, Ty K and Noah B all had a great game holding off the Thunder attack.  Up front, Aidan D played his best game of the young season, getting his nose dirty on a number of plays.  Connor M and Jamieson A had great two way games creating chances and hustling back to help the defence.  The coach was looking for 11 POTG awards but was denied by tourney officials and limited to one.  Owen W took home the POTG for his outstanding effort.

Coach TJ used the weekend to move some kids around to different positions, so to create a deep/flexible roster with lots of options heading into the season.  All was good until the spillage at BP where Coach may have got a little excited over the thought of chicken wings and fries.

All in all, it was a great weekend for the boys.  The Wolfpack battled the eventual tournament winners (Dundalk) right down to the final buzzer and their other loss was to the tournament finalist.  The boys said, bring on the regular season!
