Wolfpack 1st win is credited from 3 players making their season debut goals
All great stories have a happy ending and our Midget LL2 Wolfpack team couldn’t have been any happier with their first win of the season against Tillsonburg Tornadoes 1, as a result of a fantastic 3rd period ending with three goals in the last 7 minutes of the game.

What made this game extra special was that all goals were scored by three different players, Fletcher, Owen and Wyatt, who each earned their debut goals of the season to help earn our team’s first win.          In addition, both Abby and Spencer were each credited for their first assists of the season.

Our game started off relatively slowly with no goals; however, there were plenty of great chances and plays by our Wolfpack squad.  Our defence demonstrated some powerful shots on net, including a shot by Campbell that literally knocked over a player who was brave enough to stand in front of his shot.  There were more pings and bangs delivered from our defenceman shots than a musical production of Stomp.

Entering the second period I urged the players to pick up the pace and set the speed of the game to the way they play best to gain the advantage of the game.

Without long our players seemed to be in more control of the game and it paid off huge with a great three way scoring play that started with a pass from Spencer to Ben to Fletcher, who buried the puck in the back of the Tornadoes net.  An impressive team effort play that earned a standing cheer from their team mates on the bench.

Before the start of the third period I pleaded to our players to not slow down, instead to increase their skating and not hold back in scoring as many goals that they can deliver.  Our players were on board with this plan; unfortunately, a hiccup in our game, with an unlucky pass, deflected off a skate to go by Ethan.  Before this play, Ethan had a flawless game and he was just a blade shy of a shut-out.

Our team was quick to make up for this goal by returning a goal of our own, exactly thirty seconds later, with a goal by Owen that was set up by Abby and Calvin, putting our team back in the lead.  Not wanting to let go of the lead and dealing with some poor choice, retaliation penalties on our bench, I decided to call up some defence players to play forward.  Even though Wyatt was injured, earlier in the game, when I made the offer to play him on our forward line he was more than willing to help out and in his first shift he scored his first goal of the season after a pass by Campbell.  Oh but he wasn’t done yet and just a minute later he received another pass from team mate Calvin and skated past our Tornadoes opponents who had an added player after pulling their goalie and scored an empty netter during a penalty kill for our team.

Celebrations in the dressing room was vibrant for all players and coaches, although, Big Rick, trainer was missing from this game as he was on holidays in Cuba; however, unbeknownst to him I am sure he was celebrating our victory with a drink on the beach.

Congrats to all of our players on a great effort and a special mention and congratulations to our Tillsonburg Tornadoes opponents who were very polite and showed excellent sportsmanship after the game with handshaking our coaching staff.

Next game will be this coming Friday against our other hometown Midget LL1 team.
